TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph “JPS” Watch In Black And Gold

Having just announced a replica edition with a gold case and semiprecious stone dial, TAG Heuer has debuted another all-gold Carrera, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph “JPS” Replica . It features an 18k yellow gold case matched with a black-and-gold dial inspired by the 1158 CHN chronograph of the 1970s, a colour combination better known as the “JPS”.

Its brand colours were black and gold, which was also the paintwork for the Lotus race cars. That led to the “JPS” label for the Rolex Daytona in the same colours, though the nickname has since been applied to sports chronographs in the same livery.

But the new Carrera really is all about the dial, which is no doubt meant to evoke what is now a million-dollar watch. Besides the rarity of the model, the value also reflects the intrinsic appeal of the black-and-gold livery, which is both striking and easy to appreciate.

The new Carrera attempts to capture the same look in a straightforward manner and mostly succeeds. It reproduces the high-contrast palette and also gets the details right, like the black date disc. That said, I would have hoped for a gilded outer seconds track like the namesake Daytona.

Sticking out of the right-hand side of the case are a pair of black PVD titanium pushers flanking a large winding crown that is also made from black PVD grade 5 titanium with a rubber insert for added grip. Protecting the movement side of the Tag Heuer Replica Watches is a screw-on caseback, which is fitted with a sapphire display window and helps provide users with 100 meters of water resistance.

Featuring a three-register chronograph layout with the running seconds displayed by the visible one-minute tourbillon at the 6 o’clock location, the rainbow-colored lower layer of the dial is framed by a thin black flange with a 60-second/minute scale. This flange extends throughout the dial to form an architectural structure above the rainbow-colored surface that houses the rhodium-plated hour markers and matching rings for the two chronograph counters that appear at the 3 o’clock and 6 o’clock locations.
